How cured-in-place lining works
- Inspect. A camera confirms the pipe is a candidate and measures the section to line.
- Clean. The line is jetted, and cast iron is descaled, so the liner can bond. See hydro jetting and descaling.
- Install. A flexible tube soaked in resin is pulled or inverted into the pipe through an access point.
- Cure. Hot water, steam or light hardens the resin into a seamless pipe inside the old one.
- Reinstate and verify. Any side connections are reopened, and a final camera pass confirms the result.
Why it matters for slab homes
Many Tempe houses are single-story homes on concrete slabs, with drain lines running under the floor. A traditional repair under a slab means cutting through the floor or tunneling underneath. Lining works from the inside through existing access points, so for the right pipe it avoids most of that disruption.
When lining is not an option
- A fully collapsed section, where there is no pipe left to line.
- A severe sag. A liner follows the old pipe's shape, so it does not fix a belly. See belly repair.
- Pipe too deteriorated to clean safely.

Does lining shrink the pipe?
Slightly, by the thickness of the liner. For most residential lines this does not affect flow, and the smooth surface can drain better than rough old pipe.
Can lining fix roots?
Yes, for roots entering through joints and cracks. The liner seals those openings. Existing roots are cut out first.
Will lining fix a sag in my line?
No. A liner follows the existing pipe, so a belly stays a belly. Sags need excavation or re-grading of that section.
How long does a liner last?
It depends on the product and installation. Ask each contractor what their liner is rated for and what warranty they offer, in writing.
